Arctic Cat Recalls Snowmobiles

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Arctic Cat has voluntarily recalled about 3,000 snowmobiles due to fire hazard. The company is working in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The sleds being recalled pose a potential fire hazard to consumers from oil leaking into the engine compartment. Arctic Cat has received 33 reports of oil leaks, including eight vehicle fires. The CPSC also said the fuel tank could come into contact with the engine, possibly wearing and causing fuel leakage. There have yet to be any reports on fuel leakage from tank wearing and no injuries have been reported.

The recall involves MY 2009 Arctic Cat Z1 Turbo, Z1 Turbo Sno Pro and TZ1 Turbo model snowmobiles.

The vehicles were sold at Arctic Cat dealerships nationwide from June 2008-July 2009 for $12,500-$14,300.

AMSOIL Duluth 2008 Hibbert3 200 AMSOIL Duluth 2008 Wrap UpThere’s always a lot of hype and anticipation surrounding the first snocross race of the season; especially this year with a new sanctioning body behind the helm. Not only is the first race a place for the riders and team to get stats and make changes for the remaining season, but it’s also a good judge of participation from the fans. If the attendance at Duluth is any factor, this should be a great season. Fans came out in record breaking numbers for a three day crowd of 36,500.

There was some added excitement before kicking off the Pro races at Friday night’s Slednecks Invasion Tour by Monster Energy. The segment showcased some of the best snowmobile stunt riders around, nailing superman’s and backflips all to the tracks of their own personal DJ.

As far as manufacturers are conserned, Arctic Cat and Polaris definitely led the pack. Tucker Hibbert swept both Pro Finals to capture his 39th and 40th career victories. And whether it was the new 30 lap finals or his sheer skill, he found himself lapping nearly have the field in both events.

Hometown favorite Bobby LePage won the Semi-Pro Open and Martin Dylan captured the Semi-Pro Super Stock top podium spot. Leaving both top Pro spots to Arctic Cat and both top Semi spots to Polaris. By the end of the weekend Cat had the most podiums (7) (4-Pro, 3-Semi) with Polaris at 5 total podium spots (2-Pro, 3-Semi), leaving the Doos and Yamahas in the dust. Heightening the manufacturers competition is the added Sled Head 24/7 Manufacturer’s Cup, adding an additional $10,000 to the manufacturer who accumulates the most year-end points in the four main event classes.

Now that the first one’s under the belt, all the focus is on this weekends race in Ironwood, Michigan. In hopes to keep the fans and families attention’s grabbed, this weekends Pro and Semi races will all be ran all on Saturday. Talk about an action packed day, this will be qualifying, LCQ and finals running back to back. Looking forward to it. (BB)
